April Lufriu from Florida was crowned Mrs. America 2011

The 41-year-old April Lufriu from Florida was crowned Mrs. America 2011 on April 14th at the Greenbrier Resort, White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Competing as Mrs. Florida, the Tampa native is involved in raising funds for retinitis pigmentosa research. Lufriu is a business owner, model and dental hygienist. She is a leader for the Foundation Fighting Blindness, as she and her three children are affected by retinitis pigmentosa. The 1st runner up was Mrs. Hawaii Lara Foroimoana and the 2nd runner up was Mrs. Colorado Janell Ames. The remaining top six were Mrs. California Jennifer Glava, Mrs. Minnesota Yasmine Ryback, and Mrs. Georgia Tiffany Marshall.

The pageant was hosted by America’s favorite married woman, Mrs. Brady, Florence Henderson and her daughter Barbara Chase.

From the 51 delegates, the judges selected ten semi-finalists following Tuesday’s preliminary competition. They were:
* Mrs. California, Jennifer Glava
* Mrs. Colorado, Janell Ames
* Mrs. Florida, April Luifriu
* Mrs. Georgia, Tiffany Marsha
* Mrs. Hawaii, Lara Leimana Fonoimoana
* Mrs. Idaho, Kristie Bear
* Mrs. Michigan, Teresa Tafoya
* Mrs. Minnesota, Yasmine Ryback
* Mrs. Oregon, Aspen Droesch and
* Mrs. Texas, Abby Tracy

Two additional semi-finalists, selected through online voting, were Mrs. Virginia, Rachel Travis and Mrs. West Virginia, Kayla Tilley.
The two staff-selected semi-finalists were
* Mrs. Arkansas, Amanda Patterson and
* Mrs. Nebraska, Karalyn Hoefer.

Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier, drew the 15thsemi-finalist name at random, Mrs. New York , Karen O’Hara. The delegates spent two weeks at The Greenbrier where they toured the Cold War-era Congressional bunker, learned the art of falconry and discovered the fun of fly fishing. They also spent a morning hanging drywall and siding on the Habitat for Humanity Women Build home in White Sulphur Springs, WV.

The Mrs. America pageant will air as a two-hour primetime special on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, on My Family TV, R&R TV, Retro TV and the Dish Network.

"Mrs. America" is a reality-based prime time television special featuring the most accomplished married women of America. Each year, 51 delegates (all U.S. states plus the District of Columbia) compete for the coveted title. Imitated but never duplicated, "MRS.AMERICAS" remains the first, and still the foremost competition for married women! This renowned national competition is devoted to emphasizing that America's 70 million married woman are extraordinarily beautiful, poised, articulate and versatile.

Each of the 51 contestants - ranging in age from the 20's to 50's -- earns the right to participate in the national event by winning her state competition. These states events are under the direction of MRS.AMERICA State Directors, a network of respected and talented community and business leaders reflecting one of the largest systems of its genre in the world. Their efforts over the past 3 decades continues as a year-long watershed effort to discover the most accomplished married women qualified to compete for the esteemed title.

Each year the new "MRS.AMERICA" will make personal appearances throughout the country during her yearlong reign, speaking to and for our country's Greatest Natural Resource and most important constituency -- its married women. The new "MRS.AMERICA" will also represent the United States at "MRS.WORLD," on the television special seen around the world to be broadcast live November 22, 2009 from Vung Tau, Vietnam. Together, these shows comprise the largest system of its genre in the world.

The Mrs. America 2012 Pageant will be held on April 14, 2011. Shelley Carbone, Mrs. America 2011, will pass the crown to her successor at the end of the event. The new “MRS.AMERICA” will also represent the United States at “MRS.WORLD”.
