The Miss Universe contestants took part in a friendly competition held by the Atlantis resort. The Miss Universe River Race, which was held on Saturday Morning 15th August before the Preliminary Competition on Sunday night.
All delegates were split into 4 groups: Red, Orange, Yellow and Blue. Each contestant was given a river tube and a custom-made wetsuit with their national flag.
The first five delegates in each group who made it to the end line first, would advance to the next round of competition.
The winner was Miss Guatemala, Lourdes Figueroa (Gold), While Miss Iceland, Ingibjorg Egilsdottir (Silver) and Miss Albania, Hasna Xhukici (Bronze). All three stepped into an olympic-like podium to receive their medals from Miss Universe 2008, Dayana Mendoza.
